When reviewing slab leak repair costs, look beyond the pipe repair. Ask how the proposed work accounts for reaching the repair area, protecting your home and restoring anything that must be opened or removed.
For Dallas and Plano homeowners, those details belong in the estimate for the actual property. A room name or a leak’s position near the foundation edge does not, by itself, establish a repair price.
At Lone Star Leak Locators, detection starts at $339 and up. We test for and locate leaks using specialized equipment, always provide a written report, and give an estimate for repair after locating the leak. Our team also performs repairs.

1. The proposed access route
Once a leak has been located, ask how the proposed repair area will be reached. The estimate should make it clear what access work is included and what may need a separate quote.
A leak described as “under the kitchen” leaves important questions unanswered. Does the proposal involve opening a finished surface? Will anything need to be moved? Is another access approach being considered? Discuss the plan for your property before approving the work.
2. Flooring and other finished surfaces
If the proposed work involves tile, wood flooring, carpet or another finished surface, ask how it will be handled. Separate the plumbing work from the work needed to put the room back together.
- Who removes or protects the existing finish?
- Is replacement or reinstallation included?
- Who supplies replacement materials?
- What happens if matching materials are unavailable?
These questions help define the project. They do not mean every slab leak repair requires flooring removal.
3. Cabinets, fixtures and room access
Tell us about cabinets, built-ins, appliances or other restrictions near the suspected problem. Before any item is moved or removed, discuss whether that work is necessary for the proposed repair and who will handle it.
Photographs can help explain the space when you call. Wait for an agreed access plan before arranging demolition based only on a suspected location.
4. The repair scope
Ask what the repair estimate actually covers. A price for one defined repair cannot be compared directly with a proposal for different or more extensive work.
If more than one approach is proposed, ask for an explanation of each scope, its access requirements and what is excluded. The findings and conditions at your property should guide that discussion.
5. Restoration and completion
“Repair complete” should be clear to everyone involved. Ask separately about plumbing work, any concrete work, finished surfaces, cleanup and checks after the repair. Confirm which tasks are included in the estimate and which you would need to arrange separately.
Do not assume a plumbing repair price includes every part of restoring a room. Equally, do not assume restoration is excluded: check the actual proposal.
Detection pricing versus the repair estimate
Our $339-and-up starting fee is for detection. It is not a fixed price for every visit or a combined detection-and-repair package. Confirm the diagnostic scope and fee for your property before booking.
For a broader explanation, read our Dallas–Plano slab leak pricing guide. If you already have a proposal, use our questions to ask before approving a repair estimate.
What happens when you contact Lone Star?
Tell us your address, what you have noticed, when it started and whether there has been previous repair work. We can discuss availability and the testing visit. On-site appointments average about 90 minutes, although testing needs vary.
Every visit includes a written report. When a leak is identified, we explain the next step and provide an estimate for repair. Read more about our slab leak detection service in North Dallas and Collin County.
Discuss the scope before committing to a price
A useful estimate tells you what work you are approving. Call us to discuss your property, confirm the detection fee and arrange a visit.
